Father in heaven, we give you thanks for your servant Prince Philip. We praise you as we remember his long life and cherish his memory. We thank you for all he has brought to our Commonwealth and Nation and for all whose lives he has touched. For we have seen in his devoted service reflections of your compassion; In his integrity demonstrations of your goodness; In his faithfulness glimpses of your eternal love. Comfort our nation as this time of sadness and mourning, and give us grace to follow his good example so that we may come with him to your everlasting kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who died and rose again and opened the gate of glory. Amen.
Father of mercies and God of all compassion, give comfort and hope to the Queen and all the Royal Family and the many who mourn the death of the Duke of Edinburgh; support and uphold them; reassure them of your continuing love and give them the light and peace of your presence. Your son, our Lord Jesus Christ, by dying has destroyed our death, and by rising restored life and hope. May we go forward eagerly to meet him, and after this life be reunited with all our loved ones and friends who have died, in that place where every tear is wiped away. We make our prayer in the name of Jesus the Lord. Amen.
Some comforting words of Psalm 23 to support us in the days ahead
The Lord is my shepherd : therefore can I lack nothing.
He shall feed me in a green pasture : and lead me forth beside the waters of comfort.
He shall convert my soul : and bring me forth in the paths of righteousness, for his Name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil : for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff comfort me.
Thou shalt prepare a table before me against them that trouble me : thou hast anointed my head with oil, and my cup shall be full.
Surely thy loving-kindness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life : and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father which art in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done,
in earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive them that trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power, and the glory
for ever and ever. Amen.
